Inclement Weather Procedures

Hello Bailey families,

With winter fast approaching, we wanted to take a moment to let you know how Bailey Charter Elementary School will be participating in delayed starts and snow days under our current distance learning model.

As we have in the past, Bailey Charter will continue to follow the Washoe County School District when determining whether or not to call for a delayed start or snow day.  If you hear on the news or any of their official communications that WCSD has announced a delay or snow day, know that we will be doing the same.  We will also send our own phone calls and emails home to families to notify you every time there is a delay or snow day; notifications will also be posted on our website and Facebook page.

If WCSD calls a delayed start, we will proceed with distance learning, with a later start time.  For a 2 hour delayed start, the Front Office will open at 10:30am, and the school day will begin at 11:00am.  All live meetings that are scheduled to begin before 11:00 will be cancelled for the day; all live meetings that are scheduled for 11:00 or later will be held according to the usual schedule.

If WCSD calls a distance learning day, then our school day will proceed as usual on the distance learning model.  Assignments will be posted in Google Classroom, and live meetings will be held according to the usual schedule.  Teachers and staff will be working remotely on these days, and the building will be closed.

If WCSD calls a snow day, then school is cancelled for the day.  There will be no lessons posted in Google Classroom, and no live meetings will be held.  The building will also be closed.  Snow days will need to be made up by adding additional school days at the end of the school year.

As always, we thank you for your patience as we all adjust to new policies and procedures in the era of distance learning.  If you have any questions regarding our inclement weather procedures, please call us at (775) 323-6767, send us a Facebook message, or email us at

Thank you!
